David G Poppitt MSc MInstF - Managing Director and Principal Consultant

David Hughes

David Poppitt, author of “The School Fundraiser” David was educated at Bolton School and Manchester University, eventually gaining an MSc in the Medical Faculty. He worked for over 20 years in medical research, specialising in experimental chemotherapy at Manchester’s Christie Hospital. In 1989 he was invited to create a fundraising role. He built a team of 15 from a “one man show” which by 1995 was responsible for raising £3 million per annum.

In 1995 David was asked by his old School in Bolton to take on the position of Development Director. By concentrating on alumni development and local business relationships, he was responsible for raising nearly £2 million for the Bursary Fund. He instigated a number of income generation initiatives which brought forward enquiries from across the education sector.

In 2000 he left the School to set up his own extremely successful consultancy based on his success at the Christie and in Bolton. He is the author of the best selling book “The School Fundraiser” together with a number of articles in education and charity literature.

David has been very much involved in making three programmes for Teacher TV and has worked with over 50 schools across the UK in both the independent and state sectors.

A former rugby player for many years and Welsh by birth, David is now Chairman of Broughton Park FC in South Manchester where he set up a charity and was extremely successful both in fundraising and commercial utilisation of the facilities. Once again, he concentrated on local business partnerships setting up a number of sponsorship relationships.

Anne Marie Perkins - Administrative Director

After many years working as a Personal Assistant, Anne Marie joined Bury Grammar Schools to help set up the Development Department. In 2001 she was appointed as Secretariat Administrator to the IDPE (Institute of Development Professionals in Education) representing the interests of all those who have a responsibility for securing additional funding and support in the educational sector.

During her seven years with the IDPE Anne Marie became a key player in the Institute’s establishment and growth, and in particular in the growth and success of the annual conference.  Anne Marie brings with her a wealth of experience in events organisation and runs the Administration for Income Generation Limited Ltd. After a short break when she moved overseas with her family, Anne Marie is now concentrating her efforts on the success of Income Generation Limited.

Susie Poppitt DCR(T) MInstF - Associate Consultant

Susie worked for a number of years as a Therapy Radiographer  at the Christie Hospital before joining the newly formed Fundraising Team at the hospital. With responsibility for trading development, promotional support and event management within the team, she was a key player in helping to build the highly successful community fundraising base in support of the charity.

In 1994 she left the Christie, working inititially with the Creative Media Group developing a wide range of PR and marketing skills before moving to set up her own Fundraising Consultancy.  She has produced feasibility studies and developed fundraising  strategies and campaign programmes for a variety of clients including South Manchester Area Health Authority, Age Concern Manchester, and Derian House Children’s Hospice.

Susie is delighted to bring her experience in fundraising, PR and marketing to bear as an Associate Consultant of Income Generation Ltd.


Stephen Orman - Associate Consultant


The eldest son of David Poppitt, I spent the first part of my life growing up in the North West of England and studied at Wigan and Leigh college, then progressing to Coventry University. After finishing university in the mid 90’s I moved to Bristol where I have had a varied career from working at an Arts venue to being a driving Instructor. Within two years of living in Bristol I had the opportunity to live in Spain for 12 months then France for 8 months where I found work holding English pronunciation classes on a one to one basis. On returning to the UK I returned to retail and continued to expand my retail knowledge with 8 years working for a large European leading retailer.

After fighting the recession as a self-employed driving instructor, I joined a well-established charity in the heart of Bristol on a new project working on the rehabilitation of offenders into the community and long term unemployed with which I enjoyed great success.  I worked very closely in a successful major grant application for two years in a row which contributed to hiring new staff and securing premises.

Latterly, I have spent my time expanding current contracts and providing new ones both commercial, third sector and contributing to a larger organisation working with 200 charities across the UK.

I enjoy Rugby, travel, music and the Arts.

Anne Strachan MInstF – Associate Consultant

Anne has been a fundraiser, trainer and project manager in the third sector for over 20 years. After a career as an academic librarian with a sideline in managing local rock bands she worked at Manchester Development Education Project as a project manager and fundraiser developing and delivering projects on topics as diverse as social enterprise education, ethical finance, primary history, malaria and climate change. She raised funds for local as well as international education programmes.

She now works part-time as a fundraiser for the Gaddum Centre. She also runs a consultancy supporting charities; social enterprises and start-ups raise funds and build an engaged community through crowdfunding. She runs training courses across the UK in partnership with third sector and enterprise support networks.

Specialising in creativity and innovation, funding strategy and trust fundraising she is passionate about growing and ensuring sustainable funding for the sector.  She obtained her first grant from the Prince’s Trust for a charity album back in the 1980s and has not looked back. She has raised well over £1 million from European, national and local government, charitable trusts and non-governmental organisations.

In addition to excellent bid writing skills Anne can work with organisations to ensure that their ideas develop into quality projects.
